Simple visual aids such as discussion starters, flannel boards, picture cards and posters are potentially the most useful tools for communication in areas of the world where people have little, if any, acess to mass media and literacy rates are low.
Especially if visual aids are used in a participatory way they can help people to look at the fundamental causes of the problems in their community and make them aware that they themselves can contribute to the process of change.
