I designed this 'South Africans' picture, originally a limited edition wood cut, in 1974 while working for the ‘Christian Institute’ in Cape Town to raise money for the relatives of political detainees. Many years later when I moved to Birmingham UK I re-printed the design as a silk screen-print for posters and T-shirts to raise money for the Anti-Apartheid movement. This was the beginning of 'Active Art'.
This picture has been used world wide, in various publications and as book covers - with or without my copyright permission! It has been used by conflict resolution groups and in training programmes in Pakistan, Liberia and the UK. It was also painted on a house in Nigeria and used as a huge billboard design by a Ghanaian artist in Wa, nothern Ghana.
Please note when you look at some of the design you will need to look again to really see the whole picture!
